Typical Uses

A fast dry, interior-exterior corrosion resistant alkyd primer formulated for use on properly prepared ferrous metal. Ideally suited for use in fabrication shops or on structural steel. May be topcoated with a variety of finishes including epoxy, urethane, conventional alkyd and latex products.

Not designed for immersion. Do not use on galvanized metal.

Surface Preparation

Surface must be free of moisture, grease or other contaminants. Remove loose paint, mill scale, rust, etc by hand tool or power tool clean SP2 or SP3.

Application Equipment

The following is a guide; suitable equipment from other manufacturers may be used. Changes in pressure and tip size may be needed for proper spray characteristics.

  • Airless spray – Standard equipment with a 30:1 pump ratio or larger, with a 0.015-0.017-inch fluid tip.
  • Conventional spray – Industrial equipment such as DeVilbiss MBC or JGA or Binks 18 or 62 spray guns. Use moisture and oil trap in main air supply line and separate regulators for air and fluid pressure.
  • Power mixer – Jiffy Mixer powered by an air or explosion proof electric motor.

Application Data

  • Method: Airless or conventional spray, brush, or roller
  • Temperature: Minimum 45°F air and surface. Surface temperatures must be at least 5°F (3°C) above dew point to prevent condensation.
  • Drying time: @ 77° F & 50% RH
    • Touch: 10 minutes
    • Recoat: 30 minutes (2 hrs epoxy or urethane)
  • Reduction/clean up: Xylene or Naptha
